Must-Do When Moving with Pets

0

It’s a big move to move from your current place to another – but it’s definitely stressful to do so. However, if you have a pet and they are moving with you, the stress might be even more. They are unaware of the situation and what they should be doing.

If you’re moving with a professional moving company, they may also feel threatened by all the strangers coming in your house. So what should you do if you’re moving with some pets?

Check Pet Regulations

Before moving, make sure that your new place allow pets most especially if it’s an apartment building. You should also check with your moving company if they allow moving certain pet materials and accessories you might have.

Contact your Pet’s Vet

When you know you’re moving, contact your pet’s vet as soon as possible. You will need their medical records so you can present it to a local vet in your new place. However, if you’re moving to a new place within the same city, you can still stay with the same vet if it’s the more convenient move.

Still, you might want to check in with your vet so they can provide you with some tips if your pet shows some signs of stress because of the move. In addition, you can ask them if they can refer a veterinarian in your new place.

Prepare their “Overnight” Kit

Before the day of the move, you should pack them their essentials. For example, pack them enough food, water, maybe a diaper or a paper bag for their poop, grooming tools, and their toys. This helps them be more comfortable during the time you’ve packed their things, on the day of the move, and a day after the move.

Get them Away from the Action

During the move itself, it’s best that you leave them to a neighbor or let someone walk them to the park. The most important thing is that you get them away from all the action as it can cause them stress. There will be strangers in the house, and they might feel uncomfortable.

Even if they are socially trained, they might get in the way and get injured with all of the moving. This also serves as consideration for your movers.

Let them Travel with You

Don’t let them travel with your movers, make sure they travel with you in your car. This is to make sure they don’t get stressed, or you can provide them anything they might need if they ask for it. Basically, you know your pet well, and it helps them when traveling to be in the care of their human.

Update your Pet’s Info

In case you have your pet microchipped, make sure you have it updated once your new place. Since the place is new to them, they can get lost easily. That said, it’s better that you don’t let them out as soon as you have moved to your new home.

Conclusion

Moving with your pets doesn’t have to be a stressful endeavor. In fact, you can make it a pleasant move for them as well.
